Pete Railand

is a printmaker, educator, bike rider, self-taught musician and full time dad. Born in Milwaukee WI; raised in the north woods of Wisconsin in a town with one stoplight. Has traversed the US too many times, formerly lived in Albuquerque NM, Red Wing MN, Oakland CA, Santa Fe NM, Minneapolis MN, Milwaukee WI and Portland OR. Currently is living and working in the woods outside of Eugene OR.

Pete regularly works in collaboration with other artists, non-artists, musicians, and in collectively structured groups including the now-disbanded Blackthorn Collective, the Friends of the Orphan Signs in Albuquerque, and currently Justseeds Artists' Cooperative (of which he is a founding member).  Railand’s visual work often focuses on collaborating with Justseeds members, Teachers Unions, and activist groups such as Voces De La Frontera, the Rainforest Action Network and many more. His sound work typically finds itself in DIY spaces, basements and warehouses of underground music.

Railand’s work as an educator ranges from weekend workshops, to middle school special education teacher, from University instructor positions, to supervising future art teachers. He currently works that the University of Oregon as an instructor in printmaking and as the Printmaking studio technician.

Railand earned a BS in Arts and Letters from Portland State University, a Masters of Education with endorsements in art and special education also from Portland State University, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico.
